| Thanks for the visuals. I can see now what I have in mind will work just fine. Once I have it finished I'll post a pic--probably a month or two as I am out of town for 20 days at a time... Thanks to John too! Both of you have been a great help. Brian

| I, too, was unable to fine the Introductions Forum so will ask my question here. The rules regarding the placement of the American flag on a platform are clear. What about when there is no platform and you want to display both the American and Christian Flags like in a church at floor level. Do the rules change or do they remain the same? I read somewhere that the positioning was different. I need some clarification. Thank you. Pastor Larry

| Greetings, Larry -- welcome to the forum! There was a recent thread on this topic in the "US Flag Display" section -- it's called "Flag Display in Church Lobby" or something very similar. Briefly, 1) The "rule of thumb" underlying the US flag code is that the US flag should be to its own right of all other flags (that is, to the left of an observer facing the flags) when they are displayed at the same level. This is true regardless of venue. 2) There exists a separate flag code for the Christian flag, which says the opposite -- the Christian flag should have precedence over the US flag. Obviously, the two codes conflict, and I guess it's up to individual church authorities and congregations to decide which one to follow. From observation, most seem to follow the US flag code rather than the Christian flag code. As an aside, Catholic churches often display the flag of the Holy See. This adds another layer of complexity, because the Holy See is often treated as a nation for many ceremonial purposes. There is a thread here in the forum (somewhere!) on the precedence of the Holy See flag. I hope this answers your questions. Again, welcome aboard! Peter Ansoff

| I too was trying to find the introduction forum, but am unable to find it to post. Hopefully the site will see these posts and fix the problem. I don't know too much about computers, so maybe this site will become user friendly. I was looking for the cerimony for burning the American flag. I have one that is worn and on it's last leg.

| . Hello, Frank ! Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site Forums ! QUOTE : "I too was trying to find the introduction forum, but am unable to find it to post. Hopefully the site will see these posts and fix the problem. I don't know too much about computers, so maybe this site will become user friendly." The Forums are split into three (3) main sections; "FLAGS", "MUSIC and PATRIOTISM", and "USA Flag Site". The "New Member Introductions" is in the middle of the "USA Flag Site" section at the bottom of the MAIN Forums Page. MAIN Forums Page : http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/ http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/usa-flag-site/ http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/new-member-introductions/ QUOTE : "I was looking for the cerimony for burning the American flag. I have one that is worn and on it's last leg." Frank, there is no "official" civilian ceremony for "retiring" or "disposing" of a worn out American Flag. The section dealing with that is contained in the U.S. Code, Title Four (AKA - "The Flag Code"). The instructions are fairly simple (one sentence). United States Code Title 4 Chapter 1 — The Flag §8. Respect For Flag k. The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. Although there is/are no "official" Flag retirement ceremony/ceremonies, people are free to conduct their own ceremonies. Some are simple, some are complex, and some are downright extravagant. Forum threads regarding proper Flag disposal are in "FLAGS" section of the Main Forums Page. they are in the Forum titled, "American Flag Disposal". http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/flags/ http://www.usa-flag-site.org/forum/american-flag-disposal/ I hope I've been able to answer your question. Feel free to check out the different Forums. There is a LOT here and I'm sure you'll find some useful information tucked away "here & there"! Thank You for bringing your Flag-related question to our Forums !!! Robin Hickman Eugene, Oregon, USA .

| Hello, Frank -- welcome to the forum! I too was trying to find the introduction forum, but am unable to find it to post The section is called "New Member Introductions" -- it's down toward the bottom of the main forum page. I was looking for the cerimony for burning the American flag. I have one that is worn and on it's last leg. Actually, there is no officially prescribed ceremony for disposing of a flag. The flag code just says that it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. There is no requirement for any sort of ceremony -- in fact, military regulations say that flag disposal should be done in private, and the flag code used to say that as well. There is a whole section here in the forum on flag disposal. You might want to read through some of the threads there for comments and ideas. Again, welcome! Peter Ansoff

| Gee, it sure would be nice if MY posts were actually posted. Sorry about that, Robin -- I'm not sure why the filter grabbed that one. It's there now. Fortunately, you and I told the same story! Peter A.
