Default Mayor lowers flag for Michael Jackson

    Hi All,

I just read an article that the Mayor of the city of Carson, CA lowered the flag to honor the death of Michael Jackson.
Here is the article South Bay

We have military members dying on a monthly basis and this guy decides to honor Michael Jackson instead of the military. I guess he never served!!!

As far as I know, a mayor does not have the authority to order the US flag lowered to half staff. Only a Governor (or above) has this authority according to etiquette and protocol. Am I wrong?
