Military flag display

I have read a couple of messages concerning the order of military flags when displayed together. The messages state that the flags should be displayed in the order of the branch's establishment. I believe the order is incorrect. In chronological order the establishment is: Army (June 14, 1775), Navy (October 13, 1775), Marines (November 10, 1775), Coast Guard (not sure the month, 1797), Air Force (September, 1946). How is it that the order is listed: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard?
One might say, "Inquiring mind wants to know."
