    Default Military Sealift Command Flag

My real-life job currently involves outfitting a class of ships that is being built for the US Navy Military Sealift Command (MSC). MSC operates non-combatant ships (tenders, supply ships, research vessels, transports, etc.) operated by civilian crews, either civil-service mariners or under various contract arrangements. MSC has its own distinctive flag, which is flown on its ships and shore establishments.

I recently discovered that one of the MSC representatives on our team is the person responsible for providing the MSC flags to their vessels. She was kind enough to arrange for me to examine one up close:

The seal is double-sided, and the details are entirely applique, right down to the eagle's feathers and the red stripes on the shield.

    Peter,
Are there any markings as to the maker of the flag? I know US Flag & Signal here in Hampton Roads makes those specialize flags for the Navy.

You're spot on, Mike! I believe that US Flag & Signal also made the intial run of First Navy Jacks when the Navy adopted them in 2002.

    Peter,
I thought I recognized their handiwork. They do make a fine sewn version of the FNJ even better than Aninn which are printed. Even the snake looks meaner.
