Just wanted to say Hello. I have visiting for a long time but just decided to join today.

I am looking for any discussion on how our current flag will be altered with the addition of more states (Washington DC, Puerto Rico, etc.).

The Institute of Heraldry (TIOH) United States Army, provides the specifications of the Flag of the USA. These specs are then issued by an Executive Order of the then-current President of the US. When it comes time to add stars to the flag, TIOH will determine which pattern is best considering visual aesthetics, artistic proportion, and historic tradition. They are not likely to be swayed into arranging the stars into circles, "great star" patterns, or to spell out any motto or dates.

If you want to see examples of historic flags that display some of the multitude of star patterns that existed before President Taft first established the practice of specifying the arrangement of stars in 1912, please visit my Flickr photostream: Flickr: nicka21045's Photostream

I agree with this Wikipedia article that the 51-star flag will probably have 6 rows, alternating 9 stars and 8 stars (9-8-9-8-9-8)

It is identical to the US Navy's preferred pattern for the 45-star flag (1896-1908) with one additional star on each row.
