Newbie with 48 star flag question

Hi all. This is my very first post and yes, it is about a 48 star flag. I just purchased one on ebay for a little over $40 with shipping. I have included the pics used in the listing and I was hoping to find out a few things. First, I am wondering if the flag is WW2 vintage or post WW2? It is Bull Dog Bunting and the stars are sewn on and the body is (I assume) cotton. Secondly, should I attempt to clean it or just leave it as is? Part of me really likes the look it has but part of me would love to see it with brilliant white stripes and stars. Thanks for any info and advice! I will post more pictures when I actually receive it.

"Best By Test" was used by Dettra Flags on Bulldog bunting in the 1950's. I have three pre-WW II Dettra catalogs that show Bulldog bunting and none of them mention this slogan.
