| James, Virtually all the flags shown on this site are being flown freely. Most people would agree that the American flag looks best flapping in the wind or hanging elegantly from a staff, BUT, if you want a one-dimensional, textbook view of the American flag then go to Google and click on "Images". There are many dozens of the images you are looking for there. Come back and visit us again.

| I came to your site looking for proper way to fly union and state flag on seperate staff atop a building. Noticed Walmart flying union on right and state flag on left as view from parking lot.

By "union," I assume that you mean the US flag. According to the flag code, the US flag is supposed to be to the right of any other flags, which means that it would be on the left from the observer's point-of-view. Of course, there are lots of times when the poles can be seen from both sides. In that case it's a judgement call as to what the "normal" observer's view would be. BTW, the idea of the rightmost position being the place of honor is very old; it dates back at least to ancient Roman times. Regards, Peter Ansoff

| I am JUST LEARNING......What I should have said was.......... I came to your site looking for PICTURES of the proper way to fly the UNITED STATES of AMERICA FLAG and THE STATE of FLORIDA STATE FLAG on seperate staff atop a building. Noticed Walmart flying UNITED STATES of AMERICA FLAG on right OF THE FRONT DOORS and state OF FLORIDA flag on left OF THE FRONT DOORS as view from the PUBLIC parking lot. YOU CAN'T SEE THE FLAGS FROM THE REAR OF THE BUILDING........ I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO LOCATE PICTURES USING GOOGLE OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA FLAG AND A STATE FLAG ON SEPERATE STAFF ON A BUILDING.........I NEED PICTURES. THANK YOU...........

| "I came to your site looking for PICTURES of the proper way to fly the UNITED STATES of AMERICA FLAG and THE STATE of FLORIDA STATE FLAG on seperate staff atop a building." The attached photo is an example. The US flag is to its own right of the state flag (which means it's to the left from the observer's point of view). The state flag in the photo is Arizona, but Florida would work exactly the same way. These poles are not on top of a building, but the arrangement would be the same if they were. The photo also shows how a third flag would be displayed to the left (observer's right) of the US and state flags. In this case, the third one is the flag of the US Navy Department. If the Wal-Mart flag were displayed with the others, this is where it should be. BTW, if you look closely you'll see that the US flag has only 48 stars. This was a special display commemorating Pearl Harbor Day, and the historic flag was used instead of the modern one. Regards, Peter Ansoff
