I was told that standing and the salute/hand over heart needs to be rendered ONLY the first time a flag passes during a parade. Never did it that way: I always did it every time it passed. (REALLY irritated this morning at the 4th parade: a good half of the men's covers remained in place the entire parade, and maybe half the people stood.)
