I was told we only put our hands over our heart when saying the Pledge
of Allegiance. Can you help?

Karen,

it is my understanding that you only put your hand on year heart when singing the national anthem or doing the pledge. If a flag is present, everyone should face the flag and put their hand over their hearts. If there is no flag, direct your attention toward the source of the music.

For other patriotic songs, the salute is not necessary (and would get pretty tedious on the Fourth of July).

Thanks for asking!

Sarah
