    Default Pinning Medals on Flag

My dad recently passed away, and we were presented a flag that we have displayed in a shadowbox.

Can we pin his silver and bronze stars on the flag for display, or is this disrespectful to the flag?

    Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the USA Flag forum.

Sorry that your father passed away recently, but many thanks for his service to our country.

I would recommend against pinning the stars on the flag. The US flag code states:

    (g) The flag should never have placed upon it, nor on any part of
it, nor attached to it any mark, insignia, letter, word, figure,
design, picture, or drawing of any nature.

Your dad's awards may be placed in the same frame or display as the flag, but they should not be placed or pinned onto the flag (unless pinned on the white heading of the flag - the heading is not considered part of the design of the flag.)

Thank you, Nick, for your information.

We didn't want to disrespect the flag in any way, but wanted to display my Dad's medals. We will display they separately.

Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
