Default Plastic American Flags (Please help)

I would greatly appreciate the feedback from those of you really knowledgable about the American Flag and what truly is a "Flag". Each year our business puts out hundreds of small plastic flags in the lawn around our building and each year at least one person complains that some have fallen to the ground. We pick them up each time we become aware that one falls but it's impossible to catch them before they fall. Today's complainer said "well then you just shouldn't put them out". I explained to her that the number of people who enjoy it far outnumber the complainers. Two of my employee's are Purple Heart reciepiants and they understand and support my position which is this: In my opinion the American Flag and the proper etiquite addresses flags which are raised and lowered on a flag pole. They do not apply to plastic flags, flag magnets, flags on clothing etc. Am I wrong on this? If you respond I would appreciate it if you let me know if what you are saying is your opinion or you have some sort of specific knowledge about what you state. I would greatly appreciate all opinions as it is certainly not my desire to be disrespectful. Thanks!

Hi there
flag etiquette really applies to any US flag- whether it be a small handheld one or a larger flag for putting up a flagpole... size does not matter.

is there any kind of way you can think of to make the flags stand up better??

i try to keep to the flagcode best i can but sometimes my flags touch the ground accidently or fall an this cant be helped. i just pick them up when i see them. obviosly some people take flag etiqueette alot more seriously than others and most wont mind if some of your flags have fallen without your knowledge and will see that it is a taemporary patriotic display for july 4th.

im glad that you pickthem up when alerted to them falling. maybe the only thing you could do is to go out more often to check on them and see if they are all standing up.
have you got any pics of your display?? id love to see some!!

It's interesting, isn't it, that people feel they need someone else to tell them whether they're being respectful or not. In most cases, respect for the flag is another example of the "duck test," -- if it looks disrespectful, then it is. There are no magic rules.
