Default Property around the pole - is it Federal?

The employees in the hospital I work for claim that the 9 foot perimeter of the flag pole is federal property. Does anyone know if this is true or can you prove them wrong? I appreciate the help.

This is completely untrue. The hospital is simply flying the Flag from its own flagpole. The flag and flagpole belong to whoever purchased and installed it. Does flying a flag from your home make your home federal property? Of course not!

Weird, isn't it, how the flag inspires so many crazy stories. The most intriguing thing about this one is the "9 foot perimeter" -- why 9? If the perimeter (circumference) of the circle around the pole is 9 feet, that means that the radius is only about 1.4 feet. That would mean that a person with average-length arms could stand outside the perimeter and still reach the flagpole. So, what's the point of the 9-foot perimeter?

Seriously, though, I bet that the germ of this story was something to do with pro- and anti-immigration protests. There was a news story last year about some protesters taking down a US flag on a post office and replacing it temporarily with a Mexican flag.

I have a question about the placement of our flag pole. the previous mayor had our flag pole placed in front of city hall, but it is also inside of the handicap parking area. will we have to move it?

Hi! I think that we need some more information. Why would you have to move it? I'm guessing that the law requires a certain number of handicaped parking spaces within a certain distance of the entrance, and that the flagpole is taking up one of the spaces. If so, that's not really a flag-related issue -- you'd have the same problem if it were a statue or a fountain instead of a flagpole.

    Hi, "decorator" !

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site forums !

I agree with Peter: We need some more information, and maybe even some photos too.

I have to admit though, I'm wondering if when the flagpole was placed in its current position did it merely displace the entire handicapped parking area (causing it to be moved over to make room), or was one or more parking spots "wiped out" to make room for the pole ???

Either way, if there are STILL the minimum number of handicapped parking spaces there as required by law, then there should be no problem. If there aren't, then your city government will most likely have to "set things right".

That's just my "two cents worth", of course !
