| Melissa, There are no rules for how long a flag stays at half-staff for a local or state official, though the U.S. Flag Code suggests that the flag be lowered from the day of death until the burial for a governor (as well as many other officials) so that seems a pretty good guide. It is up to the governor to say when a flag should be lowered and when it should be raised again. I assume the flag being lowered for a selectman was a local gesture, and thus probably much more informal, so it would be proper to raise the flag again the day after the funeral. Thanks for asking! Sarah
