Default Rectangular in shape

Can some one please tell me why the flag is rectangular in shape????

Did you know that the flag of Nepal is the only national flag that isn't a rectangle? It was formed by joining the pennants of two different branches of the Rana dynasty.

The reason most flags are rectangular is probably a matter of thrift, as a rectangle shape doesn't waste a lot of fabric. Also, the design of national flags was probably based on the design of individual ship flags, which were usually rectangular. The first national flags were designed in Europe, and since many other nations of the world were at one time colonized by Europeans, that tradition stuck in many parts of the world.
