Wink Robin Hickman : 2nd Chance To Make 1st Impression

Hello, Again !

This is my 2nd attempt at introducing myself on this website and in this Forum. The first time didn't go so well, as I labored for over an hour and a half on my intro (I don't know how to type) only to, somehow, manage to delete the entire thing before posting it. The whole thing (for what its worth) can be found at "Robin Hickman / PO'd Newbie".

Anyway, that was then and this is now, so I'm going to re-try it.

I've read a number of the "New Member Introduction" threads here and, invariably, after saying "HI!", there are a number of questions asked of the new member. Most of the questions seem to be site-related, unless the new member has asked a question or made a statement or something.

So I'll try to answer the most obvious ones first and we'll go from there.

My name is Robin Hickman and I live in Eugene, Oregon USA.

I'm a middle-aged white guy who is a Vietnam Veteran (GO, NAVY!).

I am rather fond of the American Flag and I handle a great many of them on a regular basis. Although I have handled thousands (perhaps tens of thousands) of American Flags over the past 20 years, I am NOT a vexillologist (and I don't play one on TV).

Some of my favorite classes in High School had to do with American History. I am NOT an American Historian (and I don't play one on TV). I know a LOT more about American History than I do the history of the American Flag.

I have well over 500 American Flags in my house and garage at the time of this writing. And, no, I am NOT a Flag collector, per se.

I am not to terribly "political". In fact, I am an "Independent" voter. Here in the State of Oregon I am what is officially known as a "non-affiliated" registered voter. Meaning that I do NOT belong to a political party.

As for being "liberal" or "conservative" in my thinking or in my "politics", I'd have
to say that I am pretty much of a "middle-of-the-road" kind of guy. While I may lean to the "right" (conservative) on some things, I lean to the left (liberal) on (or about) more things more often. So, I guess you can say that I'm a little left-of-center more often than not.

I joined this site's forum because, strangely enough, there seems to be a whole lot LESS political "crap" here than on most of the other "Flag-related" websites I've visited over the years. If any of you have spent any time at all visiting some of the other websites that are supposedly dedicated to the American Flag, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about!

Well, I hope that covers most of the more "obvious" questions that you might have about me. There is more to tell, but since I've already taken up enough of your time, we'll "save" that for later. Besides, my friend, Walt (WRArcher), already kind of "spilled the beans" about a major part of my American Flag "activities, and kind of embarrassed me in the process!

Until Next Time,

Robin Hickman
Eugene, Oregon USA

500 American flags and you're not a collector?? Sorry, Robin, but I think you're in denial! (-;

I'm glad to hear you say that, because that's exactly what we're aiming for here: to put out reliable information about flags, and provide a civilized forum for discussion of flags, patriotism and related topics. It's not easy, because flags and patriotism are, by their nature, political things that people get emotional about. We do our best to include all points-of-view without descending into mud-slinging and "political crap." Thanks for the vote of confidence!

I hereby deny that I am in denial about being in denial about being a "Flag Collector". I just sort of "house" them in between their "flights".

SEE?
