Well said! NAV & Robin.

I've actually thought of switching my sig to the Voltaire quote-- you know the one. Yeah, the one about disagreeing without wanting to censor.

Or maybe this:
I am not Congress, and what I say is not a law.

If I say "you are wrong," that is not censorship.
If I say "you are lying," that is not censorship.
If I say "you are stupid," that is not censorship.
If I say "you are racist," that is not censorship.
If I say "you are obnoxious," that is not censorship.
If I say "your words are irresponsible," that is not censorship.
If I say "your actions are worrying," that is not censorship.

If I say "you are a bad person," that is not censorship.
If I say "your position has no merits whatsoever," that is not censorship.
Not even if I say it would be a waste of ink to publish them.
Not even if I say it to your publisher.
Not even if I am your publisher, and certainly not if I'm a newspaper editor choosing which letters to publish.

It is your inalienable right to say virtually anything you want, and yes, I will defend that right. Yes, even to people I otherwise agree with. Yes, even if I know that you are wrong. Yes, I have done that before.
However, I also have a right to say what I think about what you say.

Gee, I wonder why I have so much trouble writing abstracts. Maybe I should pick something pithier.
