When flying a state flag below the Stars and Stripes, should the state
flag be smaller in size than the American flag? Can they be the same
size? Can the American flag be smaller? Thanks.

RMIDDLETON:

It is proper to fly flags that are approximate in size. If your state flag is a few (as in hardly noticeable) off, then there is no problem. However, the American flag should never be smaller. The states are under the country as a whole, and therefore should submit to America. Flying a state flag bigger than the American flag is a sign of arrogance and disrespect. Also remember, when flying your American and state flag, that you always place the American flag at the top.
