| To answer your first question, in the year of 1900, the flag displayed 45 stars. Making that five less than today as Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, New Mexico and Oklahoma were not yet a part of the Union. And lastly, the stars of the flag represent each of the country's 50 states.

| Hi, From July 4, 1896 to July 3, 1908, there were 45 stars on the American Flag. They each represent one of our glorious states as they were admitted into the union. The Act of April 4, 1818 provided that there be 13 stripes (which represent the original 13 colonies) and a star to be added on July 4 following the admission of each state.
