Default Starting a flag disposal drop off site in my area

    Hello everyone,

Currently were i live there is not a place to properly dispose our flags.
I am wanting to start a something like a drop-off site of unserviceable USA Flags. I would collect these flags and dispose of the flags properly. Any thoughts or ideas of how i may be able to start this.

    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hello Chris,
Welcome to the USA Flag Forum.
Your idea of a flag disposal drop off is a good one. The Jackson Hole, Wyoming, American Legion post has such a box in front of their building. See their website http://www.jhal.org/

Their site says: "Our flag deposit box is located on the perimeter fence in the front of our legion hall if you have flags in need of honorable destruction or if you need a flag retrieved from you please call our main number 739-7143 and we will send someone to pick it up."

If you do not have your own location where you can set up such a box, contact your local American Legion or VFW post and ask them if they would let you erect such a depository. You would, of course, agree to collect the flags on a periodic basis and destroy them privately per the US Flag Code.

If you do establish such a service, please be aware that flags with fewer than 50 stars may have historic/collector value in spite of their condition. If you can post pictures to this forum we would be most happy to offer our opinion on any flag's value.
