Default Remarks by the President at Arkansas Victory 2006 Rally

President Bush on Monday said, "I like the fact that Asa is running on a good platform. See, when I was running for governor of Texas, I said, education is to a state what national defense is to the federal government. That's what Asa thinks. The top priority of your government is to make sure every single child gets a good education. He also understands, you need a governor who is going to be strong about eradicating methamphetamines. You need a governor who is going to help small businesses flourish. You need a governor that's going to keep your taxes low. And that governor is Asa Hutchinson."

Default Memorandum for the United States Trade Representative

Consistent with section 1106(a) of the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 (19 U.S.C. 2905(a)) (the "Act"), I determine that state trading enterprises account for a significant share of the exports of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (Vietnam) and goods that compete with imports into Vietnam. I further determine that such state trading enterprises unduly burden and restrict, or adversely affect, the foreign trade of the United States or the United States economy, or are likely to result in such burden, restriction, or effect.

The message yesterday was clear: The American people want their leaders in Washington to set aside partisan differences, conduct ourselves in an ethical manner, and work together to address the challenges facing our nation."

Default Statement by the President

The United States is deeply saddened by the injuries and loss of life in Gaza today. We send our condolences to the families of all those affected. We have seen the Israeli Government's apology and understand an investigation has begun. We hope it will be completed quickly and that appropriate steps will be taken to avoid a repetition of this tragic incident. We call on all parties to act with care and restraint so as to avoid any harm to innocent civilians.
