Default The Observer's Book of Flags

File under: It pays to let your friends know what your hobbies and interests are.

One of my co-workers was cleaning out some stuff, and came across this gem. It's a little pocket size hardback titled "The Observer's Book of Flags" by I. O. Evans. Looking inside the volume reveals it is the 1975 edition. I've thumbed through it already, and it has color illustrations and narrative on a bunch of different flags.

Anyway, they knew my interest in flags, from both the historical US flags desk top collection, so rather than discard the volume or find some other way to sell it, they gave it to me.

Looks like it should be a fascinating read.

That's a great little gift! The Observers Book of Flags has been updated numerous times over the last half-century and is a good contemporary source of info on all those flag changes. They were published in 1959, 1963, 1966, 1971, 1975, 1981, 1984,1988, 1991, and 2004 at least. Newer editions are now in paperback.
