Great display Robin
I just noticed the large supply of flag stands next to the garage. What is the largest display you have set up. It looks like you have at least 30 bases.

Hi, Dave!
I have a total of 22 of those type/size pier blocks. They are 12"x12"x8" and weigh about 60 lbs each. The center holes have been bored out to about 1.3125" or 1.375" to accommodate the 1.25" flagpoles. I also have two others of similar shape & size. Total of 24. Normally, they are all stored inside the garage, just inside the door, but it needed to be patched up. So the blocks are being stored outside until the door can be replaced. I'll also have to move most of the Flags out of the way too. Sigh.....
About the only time I make large displays of flags are on "Flag Holidays", which are also the same days that I post Flags for the Springfield Jaycees' "Flags For Patriotism" program. On those days we use 14-16 of the big pier blocks as "temporary" flagpole holders. We use the big blocks (instead of the smaller ones, 8x8x6, 18 lbs,) as the flagpoles and their flags were far less likely to fall over in windy conditions.
So I end up with 8-10 blocks to put flagpoles in. The only exception that I can think of would have been last July 4th (2011) weekend when I held my first ever "Flag Sale". "Flag Sale" as in "Garage Sale", "Yard Sale", "Rummage Sale", etc. I don't remember if I used all 24 of the big blocks, but I sure used most of them!!!

Nice job Dave! Were you able to sell any flags that day?
Sorry, can't take credit for that. That is Robin's display.
Though that gives me an idea on hos to display a group of flags in a temporary manner.

Actually, I did happen to sell quite a few Flags. NOT as many as my wife would have wanted, but enough to make it worthwhile.
Most of what sold were American-made Flags: U.S., States, Foreign, and military. I had two cardboard boxes of what I call my "eBay Boo-Boos", or "eBay Mistakes", which were/are almost entirely "imported" goods. Those hardly sold at all, except for the Flag/Eagle ballcaps and a few "specialty" flags (Pirate, etc.).
This year, in addition to Flags, I'm going to try to expand my selection of other (non-flag) patriotic things. I'm not sure how that's going to work out. I want to be able to do a smaller Flag sale sometime before the weekend before Independence Day. Find out what sells and what doesn't, and what works and what doesn't BEFORE holding a big "blowout" kind of sale.
The one thing I knew would work last year, and what I hope still works this year, is to buy items at "half of half" their "normal" price (or less), then sell them for approximately half price. For example, to buy an approximately $40 Flag for "half-of-half", or $10 or less, then sell it for approximately $20. In effect, I "double" my money while the buyer gets a quality Flag for about half price.
But, hey! This thread is about celebrating Queen Elizabeth's DIAMOND JUBILEE, right???

Hi Robin, (I got it right this time!)
I am glad you figured out I was addressing you and not Dave, sorry about that Dave. Anyway, Robin that is a great idea about the half-of-half. A while back I tried selling my "seconds" at a gun show with little luck. I think I maybe sold one flag and they were good flags. I ended up buying a couple flags there instead. My wife was not too happy ether.![]()
