Need Help! i know the name is a civil flag but know nothing else.

    This flag has been in the family a long time without being noticed, i am trying to figure out what it is and is it rare. really i know nothing about it. it is stamped treasury dept. on the side.

    That is a pre-1951 flag of the United States Customs Service.

    Hi rjones9500,
    Very nice flag, I love the fact it is all sewn instead of printed or screened as they do today. I am not sure rare is the right word here, but I would say it is uncommon and it may fetch a decent amount if you use the right auction company. I have not paid attention to the market lately so someone else could give you a better idea as to a dollar amount if that is what you need. The flag looks like it is in good shape except minor staining, maybe stretched out a bit which cotton (I assume it is cotton) will do when it gets wet. If you plan to keep it I would suggest you keep it in a climate control environment to avoid "dry rot", one of the great enemies of historical textiles.
