AOL.com Article - Woman told she can't fly American flag outside home

It's amazing to me that HOAs and management companies don't get the message about situations like this. Even when they're technically right (as they appear to be in this case), they generate all kinds of negative publicity for themselves and usually end up backing down one way or the other. You'd think they'd have enough sense to come up with a proactive solution and defuse the issue up front.
What's interesting is that this woman has been displaying her American Flag for 36 years. Why now, does she need to remove it?
In some cases, the HOA may be out of line. Her right to display the Stars & Stripes may be protected by federal law. The Freedom to Display the American Flag Act of 2005 makes it illegal for a HOA to restrict owners from displaying the U.S. flag.
