I recieved a private message asking about the words to be said at a Flag Retirement ceremony.

I am posting a copy of the original private message and my reply to it in THIS thread. .

    Hi, Mikee!

    Welcome to the USA-FLAG-SITE forums.

I am a member of VFW Post #3965 in Springfield, Oregon. There are any number of Flag Retirement "ceremonies". Some are more elaborate than others.

Check out the "American Flag Disposal" forum here on this site: American Flag Disposal

For What It's Worth, I'm not a big fan of dismembering Flags before "retiring" them. I believe that they should be "retired" whole, in one integrated piece, just like they flew when representing our Country in Peace and War. They were mere strips of red cloth, white cloth, and blue cloth UNTIL they were sewn together to become Flags of the United States of America. As they honored us during their service to us, so should we honor them at the end of their useful service to us: As Flags of the United States of America!

Good Luck! And Thank You for bringing your Flags Question to our Forums!
