Default Three flags on three poles

We are flying three flages on three seperate poles. The American flag, the Canadian flag, and our State flag.

There has been heated discussion over the regulations and rules of the sequence. We currently have the American flag in the center with the canadian flag on the left and the State flag on the rigth, the center pole is slightly higher than the other two which are the same hight.

The argument seems to be divided, with some saying this is correct and the others demanding that the sequence be the Amercian flag on the extream left, followed by the Canadian flag and the State flag on the far right, all at the same level.

Since there seems to be documented credence to both configurations, which one is technically correct.

    Thank you for your help.

yea that is a difficult one.

because there is 2 countries flags and one state flag
if the flagpoles were all the same height it would be easy - US flag Canada then the state flag.

international flag code says one nationa flag should not be placed in a higher position than another.. so by that rule neither the us flag or canadian flag should be placed on the middle pole...
but then it would be silly to put he state flag in the middle cos IT would appear more important than the countries flags!!!

hmmmmm so to answer ur question i think its impossible to have these particular 3 flags on those flagpoles the way they are correctly

Re: 3 Flags on 3 Poles

I have always assumed that if the poles are the same height that the American flag is always posted on it's own right or on the left most pole if viewing the flags. Then another country flag could fly on the middle pole and finally the state flag would be on the furthest left of the american flag of on the far right of the display. The fact that the poles are the same height and the proper position of the American flag sets the tone for the whole display.

    Hi, Tim,

You are exactly right. The situation that Randy described was different, though, because the center pole was taller than the other two. In that case, there is really no correct way to display the three flags -- the US and Canadian flags should be at the same height, and the state flag should not be higher than the national flags.
