The American flag or the yacht ensign (the nautical version with 13 stars and a fouled anchor) may be flown from the traditional position stitched to the leach of the aftermost sail or from a staff at the stern. Except when racing, it should be flown from 8:00 a.m. to sunset.
The club burgee can be flown at the starboard, lowermost spreader if space does not permit you to fly it at the masthead on a pigstick.
In my opinion, the American flag should be set apart from any others as much as possible. Also, regarding the size of the flag... there should be one inch of flag length for every foot of boat length, to allow for greatest visibility.

Thanks, Kamie, for taking this one. I'm not so good with the yacht questions (other than knowing the American flag is always on top). Thanks for your help!
