Hello all. Question about the military US Service flag. Can it be flown outside?
From what I've been reading, it is an indoor flag or banner. If outside is OK, I have more questions about size and placement. Thanks.

Hello Kathy, thank you for your question to the Flag Forum!

The Service Flag may, indeed, be flown outside. For outside use the stars are generally turned 90 degrees so that one point is pointing up. (Technically they only have to be turned 36 degrees to get a point to face upwards instead of towards the hoist, but turning something 90 degrees is a concept that most people can visualize pretty well.)

Here's a link to a commercial website from a company that makes the Service Flag under contract to the Department of Defense (the DOD owns the copyright to the Service Flag design.)

That site may very well answer some of your other questions. But if not, please feel free to post another message here!

    Regards,
    Nick
