    Default Vertical Space betwee flags

We fly the U.S. flag and the state flag on the same pole with the U.S. flag at the top. Some say the state flag should be right below the U.S. flag--no space between. Others say there is supposed to be at least vertical inches between the two. I can't find an answer to this question on any of the websites. Can anyone help me find the answer? Thanks.

I don't know the actual answer to this, because it's not in the Flag Code, but I would say it's OK to have a couple of inches between the flags when flying them on the same poll. It just makes them look nicer than having them crammed up together.

The only reason you might want them close together is if you have a poll that's really short, but if that's the case you should probably only be flying one flag, anyway.
