    Hello, Forde3297 !

Welcome to the USA-Flag-Site forums !

I don't know why U.S. flags would be at half-staff ALL across the Nation today.

However, the Governor of the State of Washington, Chris Gregoire, ordered all of the Flags (Federal & State) flying at State facilities to be flown at half-staff today, Wednesday, July 1st, "in memory of U.S. Army 1st Lt. Brian N. Bradshaw, 24, of Steilacoom, who died on June 25 in Kheyl, Afghanistan, from injuries sustained from the detonation of an improvised explosive device."

    Hope that answers your question.
