Thanks all for your help. I just want to do this correctly if I can...
Maybe the specific answer to my inquiry is buried in previous posts, but... I decorate cover alls and work shirts for clients mostly in the oil patch. The defualt instruction from the client for sleeve flag patches is the USA flag and we have been sewing it on the right sleeve upper arm. Is this ok?
Now the client is asking for state flag patches to be added to some of the uniforms as an add on alternative. Where are acceptable places to affix the state flag patches?
Are there any standard designs for state flag patches or would any patch design accepted by the client be ok?

To add to this questioning, I am making pit crew shirts for my motorcycle race team, and will be applying the flag patch to the right or left arm (haven't decided which one yet) with the union facing forward as recommended. I see some patches with a yellow border around the flag, and some with a white white border, but I dont know which is a better choice, unless it's a preferance thing only.

You are correct about the Blue field, but the border is a matter of preferance
