Default What information should go on our website?

I am a new member. I'm not even going to post a link to our website here, I did that in the New Members forum where it's appropriate as my question is sincere.

My name is Ben, I'm doing some research for a major flag retailer and manufacturer and we're trying to make the perfect website for flag sales and additional information for those who purchase flags from us.

After someone purchases a flag from us, it's important that they care for the flag properly, display the flag properly, and use proper flag etiquette.

Also, we are looking to have more people find our site by providing this information.

So, if you are willing to help a "commercial" flag sales website, what information do you think we should provide, and what websites should we link to to direct people to GOOD flag resources?

I have, as yet, been unable to find your initial entry in the "New Member Introduction" Forum. I did, however, find a link to your website in your "profile" page. AND... just as important, on your website, USFlagStore.com, I found a link back to THIS website. THANK YOU !

We have other members here who are connected with other on-line "Flag Stores". Some of them post links to their websites. I think one or two of them actually use web links to their sites as their "signature" too. I'm not sure what the "protocol" is in those cases. I'm just saying that I've noticed it.

Ben, all of us here on this site are volunteers. Un-paid volunteers. As far as I know, none of us has a financial stake in this website. Almost all of us are "amateurs", and I mean that in its truest sense. We "amateurs" are here because we love Our Flag. We love talking about Our Flag and we love listening about it. We're here to learn more about Our Flag and we're here to try to teach others about it.

I don't know what, if anything, we might be able to provide that would help you in your "quest" to make the "perfect website for Flag sales". I think that if you have patience and persistence and keep asking questions here, you might, in the long run, find out what people like and dislike about shopping on-line in general and shopping for Flags on-line in particular.

Just remember that the way the website is "set-up" and how easy it is for someone to "navigate", is totally separate from the Flag-related and sales content. Having spent hundreds and hundreds of hours shopping for Flags on-line, my opinion is that almost every "Flag Shop" I've visited can be VERY frustrating at times !!!

I'm sure that there are other members here who have had both good and bad experiences when dealing with on-line Flag vendors.

One thing I can tell you about what it is that you are trying to accomplish (if I am understanding it correctly) is that IF you are going to do it RIGHT, it is going to take a LOT more TIME and EFFORT than what you think it will.

I'm willing to help out a little bit, when and where I can.

At any rate, Good Luck with it !

I won't argue with the fact that's time consuming, but anything done right will takes dedication. Our company and website have been around for years, we have a loyal customer base, and a really high quality product - direct from the manufacturer.

I think we provide a good shopping experience that I hope some here are willing to try when purchasing their next flag.

It would be nice to hear what you don't like about other shopping experiences (aside from pointing fingers) and that would help vendors avoid making the mistakes.

Also, yes, we did link to your website. It was one of a handful that we thought was very rich in content.

Lastly - I wonder what I did wrong on the New Members forum post Probably just previewed without posting.

Ah ha, they did, that's great

Nothing new to report yet in regards to this thread. We are going to be adding some great content to our site really soon. It's being written and researched right now.

I did do some searching at DMOZ and came across many sites relating to patriotism and the flag, but so much of it seems "dead" or at least out dated. Good links are hard to find
