I recently attending a funeral of a former Marine. Funeral involved the Marines, flag draped coffin, etc... Many people in attendance did not know to salute the flag. Several knew to salute (hand over heart) the flag when taps began but did not know when to lower the salute.

Honestly, I do not know what is correct. I saluted until the Marines finished folding the flag. Many lowered upon completion of taps.
