    answer.

I know the flag is put up at dawn and taken down at dusk, but, I'm
looking for a specific time such as 7am to 7 pm. We have four Fire
Stations and this is done at different times although a memo was issued
to put the Flag up at 7 am and take it down at 6 pm. Due to day light
savings time I want to add an hour and make it 7 pm.

    An answer would be appriciated.

    Default Timeclock for the Flag

    Hi, Robert,

This is a great question. The U.S. Flag Code (section 174, to be precise) only states that the flag should be flown from sunup to sundown. It does not indicate a specific time frame.

Also, all-weather flags can be flown 24 hours a day, so long as they are constantly illuminated.

It would certainly be appropriate to change your time for taking down the flag during daylight-saving time. Just remember to keep an eye it when it starts getting dark earlier in the fall--don't leave your flag up in the dark.

    Sarah
