Windows XP Flag Wallpaper (Samples)
GREETINGS !!!
I've been thinking about finding photos of the American Flag (and others, too), and if they are somewhat unique, posting them here. Now it's not like I've been hunting & searching for them 24/7. More like, OK, when I come across one that I think is "Site-worthy", I'll post it.
This morning when I turned on my computer, I was greeted by the sight (as usual) of my desktop wallpaper. It was there. It was RIGHT there. It was right there in FRONT of me!
My Windows XP American Flag (w/Blue background) Wallpaper !!!
I got the "XP USA Blue" wallpaper a few years ago and I couldn't remember WHERE I found it. So after multiple Google searches this morning, I found where I got the wallpaper.
HERE's the web site page where I found it. Scroll down to the eighth (8th) item listed (NOT the 6th - which are tiny icons). The download will be in the form of a ZIP file (2.92 MB).
There are a total of TEN (10) Wallpapers in the file, featuring the Flags of FIVE (5) countries : England, Scotland, Spain the UK, and the USA. There are TWO wallpapers of each country's Flag (a blue background and a green background). The wallpapers measure 1600 x 1280 pixels.
Here is the link :

I am ATTACHING (or trying to) FOUR (4) samples (400x320) of the FLAG Wallpapers (BOTH UK's & USA's). I will also try to imbed them in this entry via the "editing" process.

Last two (2) XP Flag Wallpapers :
[ NOTE : These last two are for the Flag of Spain, BUT..... they are missing the "usual" coat-of-arms (Seal? Crest?) that normally occupies the left side (Near header) of the center stripe. ]
XP Spain Blue :

XP Spain Green :

That's ALL TEN (10).
The Iconoholic website says that they are FREE for PERSONAL use.

Re: Windows XP Flag Wallpaper (Samples)
personally - i dont like any of them.
None are in proportion- or near to it.. there is only one proportionatly square international flag, and that is the flag of Switzerland
The other reason - is because they all look like the flags have been divided into quarters.
I dunno.. they just look really bad to me!
My wallpaper is a big close up shot of the Statue of Liberty, and I have my 'deskfalg' - a small animated US flag flying happily in the bottom right corner of my screen

Re: Windows XP Flag Wallpaper (Samples)
I tried a "slight" re-working on four (4) of the XP Flag Wallpapers.
It's kind of a "crop & stretch" exercise so that the XP Flag Wallpapers would fit my monitor's resolution and the "Flags" would be more in "proportion" and less "square".
The XP Flag Wallpapers are 1600x1280 pixels. I scaled them down by 40% so they were 960x768. Then I cropped 96 pixels of width off the left side and 96 pixels off the right side (total 192). That made them 768x768 pixels. Then, all I had to do was s-t-r-e-t-c-h the width to 1024 pixels so that the XP Flag Wallpapers would "fit" my monitor's resolution of 1024x768 pixels.
Here are four (4) small (320x240) samples to check out :
XP UK Blue
XP UK Blue 320x240 (WP-Stretch).jpg
XP UK Green
XP UK Green 320x240 (WP-Stretch).jpg
XP USA Blue
XP USA Blue 320x240 (WP-Stretch).jpg
XP USA Green
XP USA Green 320x240 (WP-Stretch).jpg
So..... do the "stretched" wallpapers look any better than the "square" ones ???

PS. [Edited] The smaller sizes (320x240) don't really do the "stretched" wallpapers justice! They really do look a whole lot better FULL size! REALLY !!! I've got the USA Blue one as my desktop wallpaper and it looks GREAT !!!

Reason: Added PS. about the "quality" of the small sample pics.

Re: Windows XP Flag Wallpaper (Samples)
Put me in the camp of not liking those samples, primarily for the reasons already mentioned. It makes a bit more sense when you said the idea was to replace Microsoft'a flag as the logo.
I have the deskflag application and use it from time to time. Then again since I have a physical flag on a pole and stand sitting next to the computer desk it's sort of overkill.
